Hello! My name is Kelsey Dayton and I am a literacy interventionist at Shoemaker. Some might consider me a nomad – I like to travel…a lot! I’m originally from Middlebury, Vermont, but received my BA in Intercultural Communication Studies from JMU, Virginia (Go Dukes!). Post-graduation I followed my heart and traveled abroad, spending two years teaching 2nd grade at a bilingual school in Thailand. It was here that my love for teaching grew from a desire into a passion and I decided to return to the U.S. to continue teaching and pursue my Masters in Education (Any Sun Devils out there?!). I had the privilege of working with some bright young minds in Phoenix, AZ for 3 years before falling in love with the Colorado wilderness. I’ve now been in Denver almost 3 years!
As a teacher, I strive to develop a positive classroom community where students are affirmed and free to be themselves. I seek to provide students with new and engaging ways of learning about the world, and through this to foster a love of learning in each child. I place a large emphasis on open communication with parents and families – growing our children takes a village!
